HOW GRINDING DIFFERS
FROM FULL EXCAVATION.
Clear Grade removes residential stumps by grinding them below grade. Full excavation removes the root ball and requires a different equipment and backfill plan.
TWO WAYS TO REMOVE A STUMP
- Full excavation - the root ball is dug out and the resulting hole must be backfilled. This is usually coordinated with excavation or construction work.
- Grinding removal - the stump is ground below the surrounding grade and selected visible roots can be reviewed separately. Cleanup depends on the finish included in the quote.
GRIND BELOW GRADE
The stump and root flare are ground beneath the surrounding soil level, not just cut flush.
ROOT OPTIONS
Selected raised or surface roots can be reviewed for grinding during the same visit.
CLEAN FINISH
Chips can stay neatly on site, be hauled away, or be replaced with topsoil, rough grading and seed.
WHEN FULL EXCAVATION MAKES SENSE
Full excavation may be appropriate when the area is already being opened for a foundation, driveway, utility trench, or other construction. That work should be coordinated with the excavation contractor.
